This is an extended jam session recording of Bird's playing thanks to Norman Granz's passion for documenting jazz performance. Recorded in Washington, DC in 1952, this recording shows what Parker can do when duration isn't a factor. It features a TON of great vocabulary in concert F Major (D on the alto) and even shows the kind of ideas Bird comes up with when trading fours with a drummer. Such an amazing cut!
This highly detailed transcription was done over several days using Transcribe! software. By slowing down the recording, it is possible to determine what types of articulations are being used. I have tried to represent Charlie Parker's unique bebop articulation techniques to the best of my ability. I believe that this visual representation of advanced bebop articulation techniques will help students of jazz saxophone reach higher levels of expression in less time. Have fun with this thing!
